Landsham – Tatjana Goza (32) is a chemical laboratory assistant at a lubricant manufacturer in Munich. And Deputy Commander of the Landsham Volunteer Fire Department. The only female commander in the district of Ebersberg. We spoke to her.

Tatyana, how long have you been with the fire department?

In October 2017 I started volunteering in my home town of Würzburg. Last year, I moved here south to Landsham for work, and in February 2022 I joined the Landsham fire brigade directly.

What rank do you have?

At the moment, I am a senior firefighter, as appointments take place exclusively at our annual meeting. I also started my candidacy as a respiratory protection instructor for the county last year. This year I have completed my group leader and am the head of our respiratory protection, i.e.bin responsible for the organization of exercises and further training, for example.

Why do you get involved in the fire department?

That came relatively spontaneously at the time. At that time I asked myself, what can I do that brings me something but also others. And if that goes well on your CV, all the better. I can acquire a lot of knowledge in the fire department, especially about technology, which has always interested me. In addition, it always remains varied.

What is it like for you as Deputy Commander?

At the end of November, I was nominated and elected by the team. Of course, that was a great honor for me, as I had only been there for three quarters of a year. It was nice to notice that so much trust is placed in you here as a "Zueroaste". I'm always looking forward to meeting new comrades and getting to know my team better and better. We are only three women out of 42 active firefighters. But I don't feel wrapped in cotton wool, I do exactly the same thing as everyone else. In addition, you also have advantages as a woman in the fire department.

For example?

You are more compact and mobile. You can get to places where the men can't go. And sometimes you have a different way of thinking and approaching problems. Some of the men are already quite entrenched in their old fire brigade structures.

Have you had any experience with the fire brigade that you need for your job?

Rather the other way around. In my work, I also deal with hazardous substances and I can use this professional knowledge during missions or training. I am allowed to contribute to my work as a fire protection assistant and paramedic.

After half a year as deputy commander, what do you like most about Landsham?

I think it's nice to see that everyone sticks together in an emergency. Since I started here in Landsham, a lot has happened in my fire brigade training, which I owe above all to my commander Jörg Schöbel. If we see that someone has potential and shows real interest, we are happy to encourage it. For example, I myself have already taken four courses since I've been here, the next one is "Head of a Fire Department" in July, I'm really looking forward to it. And of course we are always happy to welcome new comrades, interested parties are welcome to simply drop by or contact us.
