Restoring the shrine in Großnöbach was a matter close to the heart of Mayor Heinrich Stadlbauer, who died in 2022. Now it became a reality.

Fahrenzhausen - During his lifetime, Heinrich Stadlbauer, head of the municipality of Fahrenzhausen, commissioned the restoration. Now, exactly one year after his death, it has been re-erected on the Roman road and inaugurated as part of a solemn devotion. Well over 100 people took part in the ceremony in the garden of the Bichler construction company – much to the delight of the Stadlbauer family, who have now completed the repair and re-erection of the wayside cross in the spirit of Heinrich Stadlbauer.

The family's wayside cross had been dismantled in the course of the B 13 renovation

As Heinrich Stadlbauer's son, Heinrich Josef Stadlbauer, explained at the devotion to the consecration, the wayside cross of the Stadlbauer family, which had stood for over 50 years until then, was dismantled in the course of the B 13 renovation. Immediately afterwards, his father initiated the restoration and contacted the relevant experts.

"He stored and dried the new wood in the cellar for a good five years. The Saviour and the Mother of God were restored by a church painter, and the copper roof was renewed," said Stadlbauer Jr., describing his father's efforts. His son made it clear how important it was to him to restore everything true to the original with the words: "In 2017, I researched that dad had signed the decorative flowers of the old cross, and I digitized them at the time."

"Now it should also be a visible sign of all the positive things he has done in his life"

"Unfortunately, it is no longer customary for a wayside cross to be inaugurated these days, but it was a matter close to my heart and everyone in the family that it be erected in the spirit of my father. Now it should also be a visible sign of all the positive things he has achieved in his life," says Stadlbauer.

An aspect to which Pastor Josip Cabraja also alluded by reminding us that in the Christian faith the cross is symbolic of life and that wayside crosses in Bavaria traditionally stand for this and precisely for this. The message of the cross, according to the words quoted by Cabraja, says: "Love is stronger than hatred and revenge, giving is stronger than receiving, using oneself does more than just demanding."

Following the solemn devotion, the society then made its way across the street to the ancestral location of the shrine, where Father Cabraja performed the consecration. A ceremony that would certainly have pleased the believing and practicing Christian Heinrich Stadlbauer.

Just like the musical arrangement of the devotion in the garden of the Bichler family. Intoned by his daughter Birgit Stadlbauer, who is the director of the local music association, and accompanied by a choir in which a sister, sister-in-law and children of his also sang along. Heinrich Stadlbauer was known to have a great affinity for music himself and enjoyed playing the piano for his life.
