The match between River and Defensa had to be suspended this Saturday at 26 minutes of play due to the death of a fan who fell from the high Sívori stand of the Monumental, hit his head on the ground and died on the spot, as confirmed by police sources and doctors who came to help him.
A couple of hours later it was possible to identify the body of the deceased person and his name is Pablo Serrano, a 53-year-old man from the west of Greater Buenos Aires, who approached the stadium with the Morón de River subsidiary and accompanied by his daughter.
Once the Monumental was evacuated and the fans started the way back to their homes, his friends noticed that Serrano did not reach the bus that would take him home so they returned to the stadium and it was they who identified the lifeless body.
The scenes of crying were repeated in the vicinity of the Monumental while Serrano's daughter was summoned to testify before the judicial authorities as well as some of the victim's friends.
Once the identity of the deceased person was confirmed, River sent a message of condolences dedicated to the fan's family.
"On this day of deep sadness, River Plate accompanies the relatives and loved ones of Pablo Marcelo Serrano, member and fan of the Club who died during this afternoon's match," the club's message reads.
