Dozens of activists from the "Standing Together" movement arrived today (Sunday) at the branches of the fast food chains of Shufersal and Rami Levy in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa to protest the establishment of a committee to combat the cost of living, and following the price increases in the chains that take effect today.
We demand solutions instead of committees. "Standing Together" activists,
The protest at the branches of the food chains is part of the launch of the new campaign of Standing Together - "We Choked", which aims to put the economic crisis on the agenda. At the same time, movement activists hung signs in Tel Aviv and Haifa stating four main steps that the government must implement in order to reduce the cost of living and provide a real response to the cost of living: raising the minimum wage to NIS 40 an hour, government supervision of the prices of the basic food basket, raising subsistence allowances, and imposing a tax on banks' profits from interest.
Alon Lee Green, national co-director of the Standing Together movement, said: "The Israeli public is suffocating and politicians are setting up committees instead of creating solutions. Everything is expensive, we don't make ends meet while the salaries of Knesset members continue to climb. There are solutions to the cost-of-living crisis, we just need politicians to implement them."
