Highlights: Celine Gonzales bought a hot dog at a Sonic restaurant in Española, New Mexico. Gonzales reported to authorities that after biting the hot dog he found a bag with a white powder inside. Jeffrey David Salazar, 54, an employee of the establishment, was arrested. According to authorities, Salazar inadvertently dropped the bag of cocaine inside Gonzales' order. The man was charged with possession of cocaine, a felony in New Mexico, and released on $1,000 bail.

Celine Gonzales' order at a Sonic establishment agitated the rest of the diners: "If this had happened to a child, it could have been something bad or lethal," said one customer.

It is common for employees of any hot dog store to ask customers if they want their hot dog "loaded or complete", in other words, with the most common accompaniments: mustard, tomaté sauce, mayonnaise, and depending on their taste, even chili.

But in the case of Celine Gonzales, a Hispanic woman who bought a hot dog last Tuesday at a Sonic restaurant in Española, New Mexico, it seems that delicious fast food came "loaded" with an unwanted surprise.

According to court documents, Gonzales reported to authorities that after biting the hot dog he found a bag with a white powder inside.

Police specialists indicated that, after examining the contents of the bag, they concluded that it was a gram of cocaine.

Authorities said Gonzales spat out the bag, but did not say whether the woman had swallowed some of its contents.

Following the incident, Jeffrey David Salazar, 54, an employee of the establishment, was arrested. According to authorities, Salazar inadvertently dropped the bag of cocaine inside Gonzales' order.

According to a court filing, security videos from the store revealed footage of Salazar "hurriedly searching for something he had lost" after delivering Gonzales' order.

Salazar, who confessed to police that the bag of the drugs was his and that he had bought it from someone in the parking lot of the fast-food restaurant, was charged with possession of cocaine, a felony in New Mexico.

One woman commented that "the fact was scary. We buy food here for our families. If this had happened to a child it could have been something bad or lethal."

A man also present reacted to the find with a jocular tone: "This is crazy," he said. "I just bought an ice cream. I hope it's okay."
