Highlights: The district committee (BA) Altstadt-Lehel has submitted a cross-party application for the Pumuckl traffic lights. The goblin traffic light man is to come to at least three intersections, including Widenmayerstraße, where Master Eder's workshop is also located. The little goblin with the red hair was created by Kaut in 1962 and was up to mischief in radio plays, television shows and books. Particularly popular was the 80s television series "Meister Eder und sein Pumucksl"

What the Mainzelmännchen are to Mainz, the Pumuckl is to Munich – in several districts, the popular goblin will soon adorn the traffic lights.

Munich – Instead of traffic light men, traffic in Munich could soon be regulated in some places by the Pumuckl – The district committee (BA) Altstadt-Lehel has submitted a cross-party application for the Pumuckl traffic lights. Other districts now want to follow suit.

Pumuckl traffic lights for Munich – district committee submits application

In an interview with the Abendzeitung, BA vice-chairman Wolfgang Püschel explained: "In the district committee, the idea came up to erect a monument to the Pumuckl." However, it should not compete with the Pumuckl Fountain in Luitpold Park. Now the town hall will soon deal with the application for Pumuckl traffic lights. At least in the SPD parliamentary group, there are already supporters, according to Püschel.

The goblin traffic light man is to come to at least three intersections, including Widenmayerstraße, where Master Eder's workshop is also located. The red-haired leprechaun plays an important role in the Lehel district: not only the carpentry workshop in the courtyard, but also numerous scenes above the rooftops of the city were filmed here for the popular TV series.

First Lehel, then Obermenzing and Freiham? Other neighborhoods want to follow suit

After the Pumuckl initiative in Lehel, other districts are now considering following suit: Christian Müller (SPD) made the proposal to mount the goblin on traffic lights in Obermenzing – the district where the children's book author Ellis Kaut is buried. The Freiham district committee also wants to discuss the Pumuckl traffic lights at the meeting on 21 June.

The little goblin with the red hair was created by Kaut in 1962 and was up to mischief in radio plays, television shows and books. Particularly popular was the 80s television series "Meister Eder und sein Pumuckl" with the voice of Hans Clarin and Gustl Bayrhammer as master carpenter Eder.

There was good news for all Pumuckl fans last year: The children's show returned to TV at the end of 2022 with a new edition of "Pumuckl" - just in time for the 60th anniversary of the hit series.
