The 54-year-old driver had simply crossed the border with the new sports car and had not reported the Ferrari to customs when entering the EU. The Ferrari smuggler had to pay an "import duty" of 9,270 euros and a so-called penalty security of 1,500 euros on the spot. After that, the two men were able to continue driving with the smuggled Ferrari.

Friedrichshafen – From zero to 100 km/h in four seconds, top speed 315 km/h – these values from a Ferrari F430 Spider (490 hp) are without a doubt very seductive for some. Officials from customs in Germany were apparently not blinded by the Italian beauty and the technical details and stopped the vehicle. During a check on the A96 motorway, a Ferrari smuggling was discovered.

Customs stop Ferrari smugglers on the A96 motorway

Shortly after crossing the Swiss border, officials from Friedrichshafen pulled the sports car out of circulation. The 54-year-old driver and his passenger were on their way to Munich with the Spider to an acquaintance, customs said.

According to their own statements, both had previously bought the Ferrari F430 Spider in Switzerland for the equivalent of 30,000 euros. A real bargain! On relevant car websites, dealers call for used cars, depending on the version, significantly higher prices - up to over 100,000 euros.

Ferrari simply smuggled across the border

Nevertheless, there is a problem: the driver had simply crossed the border with the new sports car and had not reported the Ferrari to customs when entering the EU. Against the 54-year-old, the customs forces initiated a tax procedure. In addition, the Ferrari smuggler had to pay an "import duty" of 9,270 euros and a so-called penalty security of 1,500 euros on the spot. After that, the two men were able to continue driving with the smuggled Ferrari F430 Spider.

"When entering Germany, you are not allowed to bring any goods with you without further ado," can be read on the customs website. There are also special rules for use for motor vehicles that are not registered in the EU. (ml)

A Ferrari meeting in a luxury hotel in Kirchdorf near Kitzbühel (Tyrol) ended in a fiasco at the beginning of May. When a 63-year-old disregarded the right of way, there was a violent crash.
