Moscow – Russian state television regularly features sensational appearances by personalities who are always loyal to Vladimir Putin, share his ideology and support the war against Ukraine.

It often gets bizarre on the "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" on the channel "Rossiya 1". Again and again, presenter Solovyov and his studio guests threaten Europe with nuclear strikes, blame the government in Kiev for the Ukraine war or compare Olaf Scholz with Adolf Hitler. A guest recently fantasized about atomic bombs on Alaska. This time it was not Solovyov himself, but a studio guest who unintentionally causes laughter among international observers.

First, the host claims in a monologue that Western countries are hiding their true intention in war. The peace plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the West is not one at all, but is aimed solely at the "division" and "destruction" of Russia. According to Solovyov, Berlin and London claimed that attacks on Moscow were justified. The governments of Germany and Great Britain would not only justify the attacks with their behavior towards Russia and Ukraine, but would further incite them. "It has always been so, this is their age-old dream: the destruction of Moscow."

Propaganda on Russian TV: West wants to destroy Russia

Dmitry Yevstafiev, introduced as a university professor of communication sciences, elaborates on the previous speaker's thoughts on the West: "They are hypocrites. The entire West is built on the principle of hypocrisy. Politically, culturally and in all other possible ways. You have to say, 'Guys, give up. Russians, give up.' We will give you Nutella, asphalt and toilet bowls. A toilet bowl for every region."

Yevstafiev may have hinted that the West wants to bribe the Russian population with luxury goods. Since the invasion in February 2022, videos and photos of Russian soldiers stealing toilets, washing machines and other goods from homes and businesses in Ukraine have been circulating, especially on Telegram, in order to send them back to their homeland. Yevstafiev may also have ironically denounced the arrogance and prejudice of Western countries about life in Russia. For example, that the Russian population is too poor to know nut nougat cream or cobbled streets.
