Massoud's family is also involved in terrorism and his two brothers were operatives in Hamas' military-terrorist wing. One of them, Hussein Massoud, was killed while trying to rescue other Hamas operatives from a tunnel that collapsed in the Tafah neighborhood of Gaza City.
Walid Massoud, the other brother, was killed in Operation Protective Edge in 2014 on what was then called Black Friday, the day the body of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin was kidnapped. After the abduction, the IDF attacked many terrorist centers in the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of Palestinians.
