Miesbach – In their security report, the Miesbach police informed the mayors of the service area about the frequency of crimes and accidents.

The Miesbach Police Inspectorate looks after a total area of 343 square kilometers, with a total of 37,296 inhabitants living (as of December 31, 2022), department head Katharina Schreiber explained to the mayors.

Decline in total number of crimes

The crime trend there in 2022 was 1397 crimes, which corresponds to a decrease of 61 cases compared to 2021. 916 suspects were identified. The clearance rate corresponds to 69.9 percent, compared to 76.5 percent in the previous year. Schreiber explains this deviation by the fact that, for example, property damage caused by graffiti is comparatively difficult to solve. The same applies to so-called shock calls with fraudulent intent. The lower clearance rate is due to the type of crime and "says nothing about the work of the police," Schreiber emphasizes.

Plus in sexual offences and drug-related crime

There has been a continuous increase in sexual offences since 2015. In 2021 there were 33 cases, last year 34. The police justify the increase with the amendment of the sexual criminal law in 2017.

Narcotics crime is also on the rise. In 2022, the police recorded 151 complaints, 16 more than a year earlier. "Drug-related crimes are among the so-called control offenses – they are crimes that do not become known through criminal charges, but through the control activities of the police," Schreiber explained.

From the point of view of the Miesbach police, the increase in property and counterfeiting offences is striking. Within the past two years, there has been an increase from 431 to 557 cases in the service sector. The number of property crimes has steadily decreased in recent years, but in 2022 it increased again from 197 to 223 registered crimes, Schreiber reported.

The police saw a pleasing downward trend in property damage: in 2020 there were 144 reports, in 2021 only 138 and in 2022 there were 134.

Dangers in traffic

The biggest block in the safety talk was the development of traffic accidents: There was an increase of 18.58 percent to 989 accidents. In the case of accidents with personal injury, the police also had to determine an increase from 129 accidents to 157. A total of 183 people were injured, 151 of them minor and 32 seriously. The police speak of seriously injured persons if they are admitted to hospital for at least 24 hours for inpatient treatment. The main causes of accidents with serious injuries were exceeding the speed limit, making mistakes when turning, and taking alcohol or intoxicating substances. A total of 16 accidents occurred under the influence of alcohol. According to Schreiber, the peak value was 2.87 per thousand.

In order to minimize the general risk of accidents, 2021 speed measurements were carried out in 163, 139 of which were at accident-prone locations. More than 600 road users were complained about there, ten even received a driving ban.
