Holzkirchen - The rescue teddies were quickly on the spot. Three of the little plush comrades of the Holzkirchen fire brigade, always ready in the emergency vehicles, comforted three children on Saturday who had experienced the trauma of a serious accident. On the B 318 near Holzkirchen, shortly before the exit to the industrial area east (geothermal energy), the Mercedes of a Munich (15) got into oncoming traffic at around 30.70 p.m. and crashed into two oncoming cars.

In the first reports, the situation sounded very dramatic, as the Holzkirchen police explained on request. There was erroneous mention of a motorcyclist involved and of some people trapped, including children. A rescue helicopter was called in and even landed on the cordoned-off roadway. However, the helicopter soon took off again without a patient. Despite the force of the collision - up to 80 km/h are allowed there - all eight participants escaped with minor injuries and a huge fright.

According to the police, the Mercedes driver from Munich was traveling in the direction of the highway at around 15:30 p.m. Shortly before the B 318 becomes four-lane on its last stretch before the motorway and immediately before the exit towards Gewerbegebiet-Ost, the 70-year-old lost control of his Mercedes for an unknown reason. The car drifted into oncoming traffic and rammed a Fiat 500 sideways. The impact spun the small car and threw it into the ditch. In addition, the Mercedes captured an Audi that was behind the Fiat.

The small Fiat had been fully occupied. At the wheel was a 36-year-old from Munich, next to her a 34-year-old, also from Munich. In the back seat were two boys, six and nine years old. "Everyone was able to get out of the car on their own," reports fire brigade operations manager Peter Schlickenrieder. Two rescue teddy bears helped the children digest the shock. As a precaution, the slightly injured Fiat occupants were taken to Harlaching Hospital.

Another rescue teddy took care of the six-year-old daughter of the Audi driver, a 32-year-old from Kreuth. The ambulance service took the two, who had also remained without recognizable injuries, to a Rosenheim hospital.

The passenger in the Mercedes, whose rear was thrown into a guardrail and deeply dented, came with minor injuries to the hospital in Bad Tölz. The 70-year-old man who caused the accident was apparently uninjured. According to police, he refused medical treatment.

The total damage to property is expected to amount to at least 50,000 euros. A fourth car was even damaged, the Skoda of a 38-year-old from Poing, who had been driving behind the Mercedes and was hit by car parts.

Around 45 active members of the Holzkirchen and Föching fire departments, deployed in seven vehicles, took care of securing and diverting the accident site. The B 318 was completely closed between the Holzkirchner "Spinne" (exit Ortsmitte) and the exit Gewerbegebiet-Ost until about 18 p.m. Traffic was diverted in both directions through the Gewerbegebiet-Ost, Hep-Kreisel and Marktplatz square. During this time, progress through the centre of Holzkirchen was slow.

By the way, the three children were allowed to keep the rescue teddies. The Holzkirchen fire brigade still has a whole bunch of plush comrades (shrink-wrapped in foil) in reserve. "Thanks in part to the teddy bears, the children calmed down quickly," says Schlickenrieder, "they help quickly and are always there when children need to be cared for."

The Holzkirchen police announced increased controls on cycling from June. You can read more about this here.
