The fate of Lorenz Klinicki from Habichtswald, who was suffering from cancer, has stirred up many. The social welfare office denied his family support. Now he has died at the age of only 21.

Habichtswald – After starting to work as a shepherd only last year, Lorenz Klinicki from Habichtswald has now succumbed to cancer. Previously, Marcel Nigge from Kassel had collected donations so that Lorenz could keep his sheep.

"Lorenz was always reliable. We could call him at any time, and he was there for every single one of his friends," says Pascal Bremerich, describing Lorenz Klinicki, who died in May.

Last year, the 21-year-old hobby shepherd from the municipality of Habichtswald wanted to turn his passion, sheep farming, into his profession. Then came the diagnosis of cancer. He fought – with the support of parents, family and friends. Over time, numerous people were added: They had followed the appeal for donations launched by Marcel Nigge from Kassel, which was intended to enable the 21-year-old to keep his sheep – despite illness, despite a lack of income.

The young shepherd himself was always helpful, putting his needs on the back burner, as his parents, Horst and Annette Klinicki, his godparents, Jens Müller and Stephanie Jacob, and his best friend Pascal Bremerich recount. "He was happy to give, to take care of the people around him and beyond," says his mother.

Family and friends remember dedicated young man

For example, he intervened only last year together with a friend when the employee of a gas station in Kassel was harassed, says his godfather. According to Bremerich, if friends turned to him, they were also more important. The 21-year-old was also distinguished by a special feeling for his counterpart, his godmother recalls. "He had fine antennae and was very attentive." He gave compliments and noticed when people were not doing well.

Animals were particularly important to him: he helped others and took care of his own with great dedication. In addition to the sheep, the three-year-old Border Collie mix Struppel was also part of it. The love for animals and the enthusiasm for agriculture had brought him to the young farmers of Dörnberg. "Lorenz was always everywhere," says his mother. In the village, he was on the road in the clubs, from the rabbit breeding club, to the sports club, to the fire brigade.

With his curious, positive and open manner, he has secured sympathy everywhere. Which also helped him with his apprenticeship as a butcher, according to Horst Klinicki. With a lot of support from the company and vocational school, he completed his training. When he passed the exams in the summer of 2022 and could not be taken on, he took care of perspectives himself. But because of the cancer, it didn't happen.

Animal lover Lorenz Klinicki battled his cancer

In February, the disease seemed to have been overcome, the parents report. But at the end of April, the 21-year-old came back to the hospital with pain. This was followed by an artificial coma and chemotherapy.
