Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo fell off his bicycle and briefly lost consciousness, but tests at the hospital came out positive, the country's official news agency reported Sunday.
According to a statement from his office, quoted by the official news agency, the incident occurred when De Croo, 47, was riding with his son in the Flanders region yesterday afternoon. He lost consciousness for a few moments and was taken to the hospital for tests, but today he said he had returned home.
"Fortunately, I was wearing a helmet and my son called emergency services," said the Belgian prime minister, who acknowledged in a video posted on social media about the treatment of medical staff and those concerned about his well-being. "Sport is good for your health, but sometimes you have to be a little careful."
According to official news agencies, the accident is not expected to affect the prime minister's schedule for the coming week.
