A young man who was riding a motorcycle died in an accident Sunday morning in Garges-lès-Gonesse (Val d'Oise), after a chase with officials of the national police, AFP learned from police sources.
Shortly before 5am, police officers in La Courneuve (Seine-Saint-Denis) chased a young man, in his twenties, who had just run a red light, according to the account of the facts reported by a police source.
The driver of the two-wheeler fled heading north and it is in the neighboring department of Val d'Oise, in the town of Garges-lès-Gonesse, that he fell from his motorcycle and hit "alone" a guardrail, according to the same source. The young man died following this accident, which took place near the station of Garges-lès-Gonesse, said a second police source.
The Pontoise prosecutor's office has opened an investigation and entrusted it to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), according to a source close to the investigation.
