Munich – Karolin Kandler (38) is the new face of ProSieben News and presents "Newstime" almost daily at 18 p.m. Previously, the mother of two spent four years at ARD and hosted the "Tagesschau" until 2022. Now Karolin Kandler took stock and provided insights into the finances of a "Tagesschau" presenter.

Karolin Kandler on "Tagesschau" job: "Four years worked almost for free"

In October, it was announced that Karolin Kandler was leaving ARD and moving to ProSieben for her dream job. In an interview with Bild, she looked back on her time at ARD. Since she lives in Munich, but the "Tagesschau" is broadcast from Hamburg, her expenses were almost higher than her salary. "Working six days a month cost me at least 550 euros for a hotel, 500 euros for train travel and sometimes up to 900 euros for two babysitters when my mother couldn't help and I had to accommodate both children in Munich and Hamburg," she listed.

A "Tagesschau" presenter gets 350 euros per show. With this, Kandler earned 2,100 euros and spent 1,950 euros. "The rest went for food," she said. She is aware that this was not a lucrative business. "In addition to the love for this job and the team, I worked at the 'Tagesschau' for four years almost for free! And in the end, as a woman, you ask yourself: Is the work still worth it at all? Is it worth it?" She tried to see this time as an investment in her future: "Then the money didn't hurt so much. And I think it was worth it!"

Who is Karolin Kandler

After graduating from high school, Karolin Kandler began a dual study program. It consisted of training as a bank clerk at Deutsche Bank in combination with the International Business Administration course. Later she did her traineeship at münchen.tv and took speech training. From 2012 to 2013 she was a presenter, editor and reporter at Deutsches Anleger Fernsehen. Subsequently, Karolin Kandler was employed as a presenter at the television station Sky Sport News HD. Since April 2018, Kandler has moderated the news on Tagesschau24. She also returned to sports presenting: in September 2022, she made her debut as a presenter of the sports block in the Tagesthemen. In October, it was announced that she was moving to ProSieben.

Mom and presenter – Karolin Kandler wants to be both, but it costs

Karolin Kandler makes no secret of the fact that her two children stand in the way of her career. "As a woman on the job, you just have to pay extra if you don't want to get stuck in the old distribution of roles after the children." In her eyes, young talent is a career block. "You have to invest a lot of money to get back into the job race after the parental leave phase and to be able to run along so as not to be left behind," emphasized the TV celebrity.
