A police officer shot and killed a teenager whose car struck two officers who were trying to control an illegal street racing gathering on an interstate highway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, state police said Sunday.
Anthony Allegrini Jr., 18, was pronounced dead at the scene by Philadelphia Fire Department medics. The officers suffered minor injuries, according to police.
State police said officers were called to I-95 in the Penn's Landing area around 3:30 a.m.

"The vehicles were racing, burnouts and drifting," with many people watching, said police, who had already been alerted to similar incidents in the early afternoon.
Two state agents were struck when Allegrini's vehicle avoided stopping before the police operation, according to the police statement, which adds that one of them shot at the driver and killed him.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed to traffic early Sunday while police investigated, but reopened later in the morning. State police and the Philadelphia district attorney's office are investigating.
