Highlights: The Ministerial Committee on National Security convened for the second time this week. The meeting was part of the IDF's "Crushing Fist" military exercise. The purpose of the exercise is to raise the army's competence and readiness for a prolonged campaign. The ministers received a comprehensive overview of the scenario, as they would have received in real-time combat. They also discussed the threat from Iran's nuclear program, which they say is a threat to Israel's security. The minister said: "We are committed to acting against the Iranian nuclear program"

The Ministerial Committee on National Security convened for the second time for a drills discussion chaired by the Prime Minister, as part of the IDF-led "punch exercise." At the beginning of the discussion, Netanyahu said: "We are committed to acting against the Iranian nuclear program, against the missile attacks and against the possibility of joining the arenas."

The Ministerial Committee for National Security Affairs (the political-security cabinet) convened yesterday (Sunday), headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to assess the situation of a drill at the Kirya in Tel Aviv, as part of the IDF's "Crushing Fist" military exercise. Netanyahu said at the start of the discussion: "We are confident and confident that we can deal with any threat on our own."

This is the second cabinet meeting to be held as part of the "punch punch" exercise, which simulates war in the northern arena. Last week, the cabinet convened for learning, and this time, the meeting simulates decision-making during the management of a multi-front scenario.

The purpose of the "Crushing Fist" exercise is to raise the army's competence and readiness for a prolonged campaign and to deal with challenges and erupting events. As part of the exercise, the IDF's ability to fight in several arenas simultaneously, in different scenarios, with an emphasis on the northern arena, is being examined.

Netanyahu and the cabinet ministers practiced together with the IDF and opened a drills discussion of the political-security cabinet. Prime Minister Netanyahu said at the start of the discussion that "the reality in our region is changing rapidly. We don't stand still. We adjust our doctrine of war and our options for action according to these changes, and according to our unchanging goals."

Netanyahu added, "We are committed to acting against the Iranian nuclear program, against the missile attacks against the State of Israel and against the possibility of joining the arenas, what we call a multi-front campaign. This requires us to consider, if possible in advance, several of the main decisions that the cabinet and the Israeli government will have to make together with the defense establishment, the IDF and other security agencies."

Defense Minister Yoav Galant added at the start of the discussion: "We have an obligation to invest in the security issue and prepare for a situation in which we will have to make decisions." As part of the cabinet, the prime minister and the ministers received a comprehensive overview of the scenario, as they would have received in real-time combat, and together with the IDF prepared optimally for the threats being practiced.

Last week, Defense Minister Yoav Galant addressed the publication of the International Atomic Energy Agency's worrying report on Iran, saying that "the dangers facing the State of Israel are intensifying, and we may be required to fulfill our duty in order to protect the integrity of Israel and especially the future of the Jewish people."

"The tasks are heavy and the challenges are great," Galant said at the graduation ceremony for Generals Nimrod Aloni and David Zinni. "The reality in which we find ourselves is complex, but the State of Israel, the IDF and all the security agencies will know what to do to ensure Israel's security in the present and in the future."

The Foreign Ministry also commented on the published report, saying that "the closure of the Mariwan file by the International Atomic Energy Agency is very disturbing. The explanations provided by Iran for the presence of nuclear material at the site are neither reliable nor technically possible. Iran continues to lie to the IAEA and deceive the international community."

About three weeks ago, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said at Reichman University's Herzliya conference that the IDF has the ability to "strike Iran" in light of progress in its nuclear program, adding that "Hezbollah is very deterred" from an all-out war with Israel.

"Iran has made more progress in recent years in uranium enrichment than ever before," the chief of staff said. "We are closely examining the other areas on the way to nuclear capability, there are possible negative developments on the horizon that could lead to action, we have capabilities. We have the ability to harm Iran, we are not indifferent to what Iran is trying to do, and it is also difficult for Iran to remain indifferent to the line we are taking."
