Decline in the number of doctors in Île-de-France: the rate of abandonment of care is alarming

2023-06-05T18:10:50.066Z

Highlights: About 200 Ile-de-France residents told their health journey in an online questionnaire. For 46% of witnesses, the emergency was not resolved. Paris stands out from the crowd, with a resolution rate twice as high (36 situations resolved, 18 unresolved) The reasons for abandonment? "The delay of care, the impossibility of making an appointment, the lack of response, the cost of care," says a resident. "I have the feeling of great professionalism on all sides," writes one patient about an emergency dermato procedure, or "surgeon at the top!"

INFO LE PARISIEN. About 200 Ile-de-France residents told their health journey in an online questionnaire, distributed by France Assos Santé

The urgent care journey regularly ends with a renunciation. This is revealed by the survey conducted in February 2023 by France Assos Santé Île-de-France, with the help of the start-up Entends moi. The appeal to Ile-de-France residents was precise: "If you have had (or a loved one) an urgent health problem since January 2022, tell us about the different stages and your experience of this journey, until the resolution, or not, of the health problem. "

The stated objective: to make a documented contribution to the regional health project (PRS), expected in November 2023, and supposed to determine the main orientations for the next five years.

Two hundred questionnaires were completed online by people attesting to living in Île-de-France, all departments are represented, even if Parisians come out on top. The testimonies retrace in a few lines the experience and the feeling in relation to the answer found. With a median score of 3 out of 10, there are bound to be areas for improvement.

When we look more precisely at the testimonies identified, several data are challenging. For 46% of witnesses, the emergency was not resolved, especially for those living in Seine-Saint-Denis and Seine-et-Marne. Paris stands out from the crowd, with a resolution rate twice as high (36 situations resolved, 18 unresolved).

The Ile-de-France residents first call the city doctors

The reasons for abandonment? "The delay of care, the impossibility of making an appointment, the lack of response, the cost of care, the geographical inaccessibility". "Attending physician in Paris, I live in the Yvelines, I could not move, no doctor in my commune takes a patient (new) and I was not physically able to look for a doctor in a neighboring commune," says a resident. Others tell of late treatment, and a condition that has worsened.

There are not only complainers, the satisfied did not fail to congratulate the caregivers. "I have the feeling of great professionalism on all sides," writes one patient about an emergency dermato procedure, or "surgeon at the top! Given the emergency I was treated without waiting, really very well. »

"Positive point of the survey, notes France Associations, the Ile-de-France residents do not rush to the emergency room". It must be said that since the summer of 2022, the message has been hammered home by all: call before going to the emergency room. More than half of respondents indicated that they go first to city doctors. "The more the number of professionals consulted, the less the urgent health problem is ultimately solved," warns the association.
