The Morenista Delfina Gómez, 60, is on the verge of being the first woman governor of the State of Mexico, according to the most recent cut of the vote count in that state, after the election day this Sunday.
The former Secretary of Public Education of the López Obrador administration leads with a percentage of support between 52% and 54.2% to her rival, Alejandra del Moral, candidate of the opposition alliance Va por México, who registers between 43 and 45.2%, according to preliminary figures offered by Amalia Pulido, Counselor President of the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico.
With 20% of the votes counted, Gómez now has 629,015 votes.

Voter turnout in that state has reached about 50%, according to Pulido's latest update at 8:37 p.m. The quick count cut is based on a sample of 700 boxes out of more than 20,000 arranged in the state. Pulido explained that the partial result comes from 617 of those 700 boxes, that is, 88% of the sample.
The official, however, said that the results of the vote will be preliminary, at least until next Wednesday, when all the votes cast are duly registered.
Meanwhile, in the state of Coahuila, the available data practically gives victory to the PRI candidate, Manolo Jiménez. According to the most recent cut of the vote count, conducted at 8:25 p.m. (local time), Jimenez leads the vote with a percentage of support between 55.7% and 58.1%. His closest rival is Morena senator Armando Guadiana, who registers a percentage of votes between 19.9% and 21.9%.
The results in Coahuila come from a sample of 450 polling stations, although there are only data from 361 of those polling stations. The confidence level of the partial result is 95%, explained Rodrigo Paredes Lozano, Counselor President of the Electoral Institute of Coahuila.
Tonight Manolo Jimenez declared himself the winner of the governorship at a press conference. "We built a great invincible citizen front. This campaign became the meeting point for all Coahuilenses who want to do good things for our state," said Jimenez, according to the site Aristegui Noticias.
