The Beer Sheva District Court will read the indictment against Yana Blum, the 24-year-old driver who caused the fatal accident in the Negev last April in which eight-month-old baby Maayan Domanovich was killed and his parents and three brothers were injured. The young woman from Rishon LeZion will be charged, among other things, with reckless manslaughter, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and causing a traffic accident.

The indictment, filed by the State Prosecutor's Office in early May, indicates that during Independence Day, Blum worked at a nature party held in a khan in southern Israel. Before leaving for the party, she consumed cannabis and later drove her car to the party, collecting two other facts. All this despite the fact that her vehicle license expired in 2022 and she did not have valid insurance.

According to the indictment, they arrived at the party site around midnight, during which Bloom drank several alcoholic beverages. In the morning, after her shift ended, she went to the bar with another employee and asked for two glasses of arak. A few hours later, Bloom left the party and began driving, although she was still drunk and under the influence of drugs.

Then, according to the indictment, Bloom began reckless driving: she overtook a vehicle in a manner that required it to veer off the road and then veered from her lane to the opposite lane and continued driving in that lane. While driving in the opposite lane, about six cars had to go to the side of the road to avoid a head-on collision with her vehicle.

At some point, Bloom's car in which the Domanowitz family was traveling came from the opposite direction. The driver, who noticed Bloom's car driving in front of him in the opposite lane, tried to swerve into the right shoulder to avoid colliding with him, but despite this, Bloom hit the family car with great force with the front of her vehicle. The accident killed 8-month-old Maain, the parents and their three small children who survived were also injured, Bloom was bruised and her hands were fractured.

In the past, Blum was arrested for a similar offense, when a few years ago she was arrested for a routine check while driving drunk and her license was revoked. After the indictment was filed, attorneys Guy Shemer and Shlomo Arad, who represent Blum, said: "We will study the investigation materials and respond in court. As of now, we will work to release our client from detention. She is injured with severe bruises after surgery and in a very serious mental state."

An MDA team called to the scene after receiving the report of the accident on Route 40 was forced to pronounce the baby Maayan dead, who was found with no signs of life. His father Eliya and his 7-year-old brother Uri were seriously injured, while his mother Ayala and his two brothers, Neta and Shahar, aged 6 and 4, were moderately injured. Two days later, the baby was laid to rest, with his parents still hospitalized and unable to attend the funeral.

During the funeral, his uncle eulogized him on behalf of his mother and father: "We received eight months of joy and happiness from G-d, and today we have to return this gift. We thank the Almighty for allowing us to be Maayan's parents. We called it Maayan, a source of living water, springs that exist in the Land of Israel. He was killed while on a trip to the Land of Israel and we bury him in Kfar Etzion alongside the fighters who were privileged to fight for this land."
