In the Ukraine war, the Russian border region of Belgorod is increasingly coming into focus. After a power plant catches fire, Chechen leader Kadyrov also spoke out.
Belgorod – In recent weeks, the Ukraine war has also become increasingly noticeable on Russian soil. According to reports, partisans of the "Russian Freedom Corps" are behind it, who are committed to opposing the invasion of the neighboring country and are trying to sabotage Putin's army with various attacks. In such cases, however, the Kremlin always speaks of "Ukrainian terrorists" instead of Russian nationalists – as it did last Sunday (4 June), when it claims to have prevented sabotage.
"The Border Guard Units of the Western Military District and the Border Service of the Russian Federal Security Service uncovered an attempt by a sabotage and reconnaissance group of Ukrainian terrorists to cross the river near the settlement of Novaya Tavolzhanka in the Belgorod region," the Ministry of Defense said. However, it is questionable whether a suspected sabotage action could actually be prevented.
Because a little later, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced on Telegram that a power plant in the area had caught fire. "One of the energy facilities caught fire," Gladkov wrote, the reason being "a bomb" that was dropped with the help of a drone. According to the governor, however, no one was injured. So far, there has been no reaction from Kiev to the incident. In any case, Ukraine denies cooperating with the "volunteer corps".

Belgorod governor offers to meet with separatists – and does not show up
Earlier, the pro-Ukrainian partisans already attracted attention after it became known that they were able to capture several Russian soldiers. Governor Gladkov confirmed several incidents and offered the "volunteer corps" a meeting in case "our guys" were still "alive." The rebels accepted the offer, but according to them, Gladkov did not show up for the meeting.
"I just returned from Novaya Tavolzhanka. As was to be expected, Mr. Gladkov did not find the courage to exchange his precious time for the life and freedom of 'our boys,'" commander Denis Nikitin said on Telegram. He goes on to explain that the captured men will therefore be handed over to Ukraine. In addition, in the future they will contact the "decision-makers in Moscow" directly, Nikitin continued.
Fighting in Belgorod: Are Kadyrov's men now taking over?
One decision-maker – at least in the fight in Ukraine – has already spoken out: Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. According to him, it takes "special knowledge and training" to eliminate the partisans "without consequences for the civilian population and infrastructure." His units have exactly this experience, Kadyrov wrote on Telegram, offering to send troops to the Belgorod region.

Even during the months-long battle for Bakhmut, Kadyrov repeatedly offered to send his men to the small town in eastern Ukraine – while Wagner boss Prigozhin had repeatedly threatened to withdraw his militia from the embattled area.
According to Kadyrov, the number of fighters in the battalions and regiments of the Chechen military apparatus exceeds 70,000. (nak
