This Tuesday, the processions of the unions mobilized to mark their opposition to the pension reform could well be joined by surprise guests: drones. In a decree published this Saturday, the Paris police prefecture authorized the "internal security forces, to capture, record, and transmit images by means of cameras installed on aircraft in order to ensure the security of gatherings of people in places open to the public," during the mobilization of June 6.
This use of drones during demonstrations is not a first in the capital since the beginning of the demonstrations against the pension reform. The police had been authorized to use it, by a decree published at the end of April in the Official Gazette, to monitor the May 1 parades.

This authorization was not to everyone's taste. It had been criticised and the Association for the Defence of Constitutional Liberties (Adelico), the League of Human Rights, the Union of Magistrates and the Union of Lawyers of France (SAF) had appealed to the Administrative Court of Paris to challenge this decree. However, the court had validated this use.
This Tuesday marks the fourteenth day of mobilization against the pension reform. In total, 40,000 to 70,000 people are expected in Paris, according to the authorities, against 1.28 million participants during the record mobilization of March 7.
