They could not convince him and Ricardo Gareca stopped being the coach of Vélez. After the meeting he held this Sunday with the club's leadership, the departure of the 'Tiger' was confirmed and this Monday morning he appeared at the Olympic Village to close his second cycle in the club of his loves, where he could barely get a triumph since his assumption in March.
"We came to Velez to improve and not to get worse," was Gareca's explanation for the unwavering resignation he presented to the leadership, after the 0-2 suffered on Saturday in Cordoba against Belgrano.
"The period was short but very intense," Gareca described in a few words how was his passage of 12 dates in charge of the club, in which he achieved only one victory, against Central Córdoba of Santiago del Estero.
In addition, he maintained that the best thing for the team was to step aside from the level of the squad: "The club has material to be better than it is."
On Sunday afternoon, a group of fans gathered at the club's headquarters to support the coach, while president Sergio Rapisarda and manager Christian Bassedas tried to twist their decision. However, despite the discomfort of several fortineros fans with the Board of Directors in the face of this situation, the Tiger said that it was something exclusively personal: "This is my decision. We gave everything in our power."
