After Israel Hayom reported that Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and the man behind ChatGPT, refrained from meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu out of a desire not to get into political disagreements, the Prime Minister's Office reported that earlier on Monday, Netanyahu spoke with Altman by phone.
The two spoke about the opportunities and challenges facing the world, as well as the State of Israel in relation to artificial intelligence, and about cooperation in order to develop the field of artificial intelligence. The announcement of the phone call comes after reports, denied by both Netanyahu and Altman, that the OpenAI CEO refused to meet with the prime minister.
Earlier today, Altman met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Among other things, Altman told the president that "the technology community in Israel is amazing and I have been following the construction of technology here for the betterment of humanity for many years."
