A holidaymaker in Turkey wants to fly back to Munich. Instead, she involuntarily ends up in Moscow – where she is met by the police.

Munich – A woman from Neufahrn in Upper Bavaria probably imagined this return flight from her holiday in Turkey differently. After all, the 79-year-old actually wanted to fly from Antalya to Munich by plane after her ten-day holiday by the sea. Instead, she ends up in Moscow. But that's not all: Instead of getting a flight to Germany, the pensioner first went back to Turkey.

Holidaymaker wants to fly back from Turkey to Germany – and lands in Moscow

At first, everything seemed to be quite normal for the pensioner at Antalya Airport. She told the Bild newspaper: "I checked in, received my boarding pass and went to the gate." While she was waiting there, her flight to Bavaria had been moved to another gate. "I queued up at the new gate, and the flight number and destination Munich were written in large letters at the gate." An employee of the airlines would have checked her ticket and let her board the plane.

It was only while she was sitting on board the plane that she noticed the mistake: she was flying to Moscow and not to Munich. "My heart was racing, I felt very sick," said the traveler after the flight. In Moscow, the odyssey for the woman from Neufahrn really begins. After more than five hours of travel, the 79-year-old was met by police officers at the airport in the Russian capital.

"Was tired and desperate": Woman flies unintentionally from Turkey to Russia – police take her away

The police had demanded the passport of the woman. However, since she only had her ID card with her and none of the policemen spoke English, she was taken to a room. "I was tired and desperate, just wanted to leave." Only the mobile phone translator was able to remedy the situation. After another few hours, she would have received a plane ticket to be able to leave Moscow again.

But instead of a flight to Munich, she only received a ticket back to Turkey, to Istanbul. Once again, the pensioner spent more than four hours in the air to finally land back in her holiday country. The pensioner had also arrived so late at the airport in Istanbul that no further flight to Germany had gone. So she had to spend the entire night on a bench at the airport.

Moscow, instead of Munich: Woman gets on the wrong plane when she returns and is on the road for more than 30 hours

With the first plane of the next morning, she finally flew back to Munich. This time without detours. "I was on the road for a total of 30 hours, I was exhausted," says the holidaymaker. She had never had an experience of this kind before: "I've traveled a lot in my life, I've experienced a lot. But never done anything so terrible." Most recently, the police at the airport in Munich had to protect airline employees from angry people.

Now she aims to get compensation for her travel odyssey. Pegasus Airlines said in response to an inquiry from Bild that the woman had been in the wrong queue and had boarded the wrong Turkish Airlines plane. However, it is unclear why the airline's staff let the woman pass into the plane. After all, she had already received the return ticket from Moscow from Turkish Airlines free of charge. Recently, the airline Marabu also attracted attention because they had not informed their passengers about the cancellation of a flight. (bk)
