The garden of Susanne Hauenstein from Erling is the first garden to be awarded the Natural Garden Plaque this year by the District Association for Horticulture and Landscape Management.
Erling - A total of 2019 gardens in the district have already been awarded since certification began in 88. Eleven more registrations are still pending. "There may be more," says Ursula Lechner from Inning.
As a representative of the District Horticultural Association, she presented the plaque to Susanne Hauenstein together with Anna E. Neppel (Frieding Horticultural Association).
"This garden is a refuge, a retreat to relax and recharge your batteries," enthuses Ursula Lechner, who certified the facility together with garden educator Jana Schmaderer. In addition to the old trees worthy of protection, a flower meadow with borage, bluebells and poppies thrives there. Roses and other climbing plants grow on a trellis meters high up the wall of the house. The vegetable raised bed and young pumpkin plants are covered with sheep's wool so that nothing dries out. Nesting boxes help native songbirds to breed, for which there was also an award from the State Association for the Protection of Birds.
