A spectacular fire broke out around 13:30 p.m. in the Centrakor furniture store, on the commercial area of the Vannes road between Nantes and Orvault. Nearly 90 firefighters were mobilized to overcome the flames. Four victims were slightly injured and two of them "were transported to the emergency room of the CHU", says the departmental fire and rescue service of Loire-Atlantique, which speaks of "many dead animals". Indeed, the smoke spread within a nearby pet store: "animals were transferred to another site," details the prefecture.
Around 17 p.m., the fire, "of unknown origin", was under control but still being extinguished by means of nine fire hoses.

Students confined
The prefect has triggered a departmental operational center, a crisis management tool bringing together the SDIS, the national police, the ARS and the National Education to "coordinate relief actions as closely as possible". A medical-psychological emergency unit has been set up to take care of shocked people.

Samples with air analysis devices were also taken. According to the prefecture, no hazardous products (VOCs, CO, SO2) have been identified. Students were confined for the duration of the analyses.
