Climate activists of the "Last Generation" have sprayed a private jet at the airport on Sylt with orange paint. With the action, they want to address Chancellor Scholz directly.
Sylt – In a spectacular campaign, supporters of the "Last Generation" want to promote climate protection at Sylt Airport. They sprayed a private jet with orange warning paint and addressed a speech to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The activists used bolt cutters to cut through the fence of the airport grounds in two different places. They then went to the parked private jets with prepared fire extinguishers to draw attention to the climate-damaging effects of private flights. Banners with the messages "Your luxury = Our drought" and "Your luxury = Our crop failures" were unfurled on the wings.

With this protest, the activists want to concretize the demands of the "Last Generation" and call on the Federal Chancellor to take decisive action in the fight against climate change. The action was also initiated against the backdrop of a conversation between Scholz and Die Zeit, in which the chancellor described the movement's demands as too vague and stressed that it was now about concrete solutions.
Theodor Schnarr, spokesman for the Last Generation, commented on the action: "Mr. Scholz has so far pursued a plan that has been described by the Federal Constitutional Court as inadequate and does not provide for any concrete measures to meet the climate targets. There is an urgent need for legal regulation to reduce emissions from private jet owners, limousine drivers and superyacht owners. As chancellor of the SPD and representative of social democracy, Scholz should have justice in mind. But where is justice when a few destroy the planet and everyone else suffers?"

The activists appeal to Scholz to take concrete action and stand up for climate justice. If the conflict with the wealthy is avoided, the demand is raised for a social council climate that can work out socially just and democratic solutions. With this action, the supporters of the Last Generation want to increase the pressure on the government and make climate protection one of the most urgent political priorities.
