The Wiesbauerhof in Arzbach is one of the 20 most hospitable country houses in Bavaria. He has now been awarded the "Golden Rooster 2023" at a ceremony by Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber.

Arzbach – Farm holidays are particularly popular with families. There are a few addresses for this in the Tölzer Land. One of them is the Wiesbauerhof in Arzbach. Among other things, the company has now been awarded the "Golden Rooster 2023" for its hospitality.

Guest reviews on the Internet are the basis for the award

"We didn't expect that at all," says Ursula Probst, still shaking her head in disbelief. She sits on the bench of her dairy and young cattle farm in Arzbach just before the hikers' car park in the Längental. On the table are the certificate and the sign "Golden Rooster 2023". "We still have to find a good place to hang it, preferably probably at the door to the holiday apartments," Probst thinks and strokes the tin sign.

The fact that they received the popular award is due to the good reviews of holidaymakers. "The most important jury determines who receives the 'Goldener Gockel' as the most hospitable establishment: the guests," explains the association "Blauer Gockel - Bauernhof- und Landurlaub", which has been awarding the seal of approval for eight years. For one year, the guest reviews of the farms will be collected and evaluated on the Internet. The most important criteria are service, friendliness and atmosphere. A total of 20 companies received the award this year. "Most of the farms were from the Allgäu and the Chiemsee area," says Probst.

In principle, holiday apartments were a requirement of the district office

The family never intended to rent out holiday apartments on their Isarwinkl farm. "It was rather imposed on us by the district office," says the farmer's wife with a laugh. In 2013, the family demolished an existing building on their farm to build a new one. "The house was built relatively poorly in 1933, and it wouldn't have been worth renovating," she explains. "Actually, we had planned to rent out one or two apartments in the building on a permanent basis." However, this would not have been permitted outdoors.

"That's why we turned it into holiday apartments, that was our only way to make good use of the space," she says, shrugging her shoulders. "Now that's our little second mainstay."

Many regular guests like to come to the Wiesbauerhof

Since 2015, there have been two 50-square-meter apartments in the new farmhouse, which is clad in light wood. And this is well received: "We have many regular guests and are sometimes fully booked up to nine months in advance, especially during the holiday periods," reports Probst. Her farm is particularly popular with families, but also with couples. "Many also like to take a look inside the barn, especially when children are present," reports Probst. Some holidaymakers would even volunteer to lend a hand and, for example, help with feeding. "The interest in agriculture and animals is definitely there," the family notes.

The majority of holiday guests come from Bavaria

However, renting out the holiday apartments is not a small amount of work. "I do the laundry myself, and you have a lot to do on arrival and departure," reports the farmer. It's a little easier since she stopped accepting bookings for less than four nights. "In the beginning, we took in guests from two nights, but that was really too much for us in the long run." The majority of the holiday guests are from Bavaria. "Many come from Franconia, Swabia or Munich." But the Arzbachers also accommodate families from further afield from time to time. "We have also often had guests from northern Germany."

The award is a nice confirmation of the daily work

The Probst family sees the "Golden Rooster" as a "confirmation" of their daily work. "It's nice that the authenticity is well received by us," says Ursula Probst. The presentation of the certificate at the Rechenmacher organic farm in Uffing am Staffelsee at the end of May was a highlight for her. "You don't experience that every day." She particularly liked the ceremonial speech by Bavaria's Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber. "You can tell she's absolutely behind farming here, and that's really important for us."
