In the video: Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai arrives at the Temple Mount (Arnon Segal)
Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai participated today (Tuesday) in a meeting on the lessons of the Guardian of the Walls in the Knesset State Audit Committee, and testified about the serious situation in the police. "If there is a multi-front event throughout the country, we will not be able to contain it," he said. He said there was a severe shortage of manpower, adding: "If the issue of police pay is not improved, I don't see an improvement in the situation."
"The issue of personnel at police stations is catastrophic. At all stations, we are in a manpower crisis," Shabtai continued. "Within the budget, there is an amount allocated for this, I hope that in the coming days we will know more. But we're not in the best situation."
The police commissioner also claimed that police work was impaired by the investigation into the use of the spyware. "Since that unfortunate affair, they've tied our hands," Shabtai explained. "If they don't give us these tools, we won't be able to respond, so we can be one step ahead of all those people."
