Wustermark - Ten people were injured in the fire at the Karls Erlebnis-Dorf amusement park in Elstal near Wustermark (Havelland) on Tuesday. This was said by a spokesman for the fire department. Accordingly, nine people suffered smoke poisoning, one firefighter had severe circulatory problems. The animals of the park were unharmed. They were rescued from a burning stable. A spokesman for the fire brigade estimated the property damage at a "six-figure sum".
According to the police, the fire broke out on Tuesday morning in a workshop for an unknown reason. In addition to the workshop, a stable, a slide and a stall caught fire. According to the fire brigade, an area of around 400 square meters was on fire. The firebreak was about 10 meters wide and 40 meters long.
The fire brigade and rescue services were deployed with around 100 forces. They prevented the flames from spreading to the main building and extinguished the fire. The injured were treated in hospitals.
Managing Director Robert Dahl said he wanted to reopen the park quickly. He assumes that this will be possible again as early as Wednesday. He praised the cooperation of the staff and rescue workers. Thus, the damage remained comparatively low, he said.
Originating from a strawberry farm, Karl's adventure villages in the north and east of Germany have now grown into amusement parks for families in the countryside. In addition to products related to strawberries, there are rides such as the "Strawberry Caterpillar Track" or carousels such as the "Strawberry Jumper" or a tractor track. According to the company, there are already seven locations with different offers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Schleswig-Holstein. In addition, there are two manufactory shops in Berlin. Four further locations in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, Saxony and Lower Saxony are being set up. Dpa
