A huge plume of smoke visible for miles around. This Tuesday afternoon, a huge fire broke out in a discount furniture and decoration store, Centrakor, in Orvault, near Nantes (Loire-Atlantique).
The fire would have started around 13:30 p.m., in this building of 2,500 m². Quickly, to try to control the blaze, very heavy means were mobilized. A total of 90 firefighters, in 22 machines and using nine water hoses, were sent to the scene to overcome the flames. If the fire was contained around 16:15, the operations of the firefighters must continue into the night.
Under the effect of flames and heat, part of the structure collapsed. Four people were slightly injured and evacuated to the University Hospital of Nantes. Few customers were present when the fire started. The smoke unfortunately spread to the nearby store, a pet store. Animals, which could not be evacuated in time, "were found dead," according to SDIS 44. Some were evacuated and saved.
