The planned safety measures for bicycle traffic are attracting attention from residents of Erdinger Straße. The protective strips are by them.
Freising – It is the next step in the implementation of the mobility concept: In Lerchenfeld, the planning committee has decided, cycling is to be improved with a package of measures. Important: What is now being planned in Erdinger Straße, in the Gute Ängern and in Kulturstraße is a traffic test that is designed to run for one year. Nevertheless, many residents of Erdinger Straße are critical of the project, do not want to accept the decision and want to defend themselves.

Dangerous situations
The first measure concerns the section of Erdinger Straße between Korbiniansbrücke and Lantbertstraße. As part of the mobility concept, it was found that there was too much traffic in mixed traffic between cars and cyclists, and dangerous situations often arise between buses and other road users. The solution now proposed: a protective strip for cyclists on both sides, each 1.5 metres wide. As a result, around 35 parking spaces will be eliminated at the edge of Erdinger Straße. As a substitute for this, the public traffic area in Obere Pfalzgrafstraße is to be managed and parking there is only allowed for a maximum of four hours. The more than 100 customer and employee parking spaces on the properties of the respective tradespeople in this section of Erdinger Straße are of course still available. It is also hoped that this solution in terms of cycling will improve permeability for bus and car traffic, the committee said.
Residents rumble
However, the residents have a completely different opinion: Rupert Schneider and Robert Mordstein complain that the residents were not informed in advance. He has a different understanding of democracy, says Mordstein. Above all, however, the residents stink that the now envisaged regulation would eliminate parking spaces that are absolutely necessary. This is because Erdinger Straße is a shopping street, and it would no longer be possible to stop briefly for loading and unloading or even getting in and out of the car – not to mention parking for customers and employees. The Obere Pfalzgrafstraße is by no means a substitute. The fact that the new regulation leads to more security is "nonsense", as Mordstein puts it. On the contrary, it will only be driven faster. In addition, it is doubtful that 2650 cyclists use Erdinger Straße every day. Where did they count?
According to Mordstein, there has been no response to the request to the city's mobility officer, Dominik Fuchs, to hold an information event. Therefore, a signature campaign will be launched after the end of the Whitsun holidays.

The entry ban
In the Guten Ängern between Angerbrunnenstraße and Erdinger Straße, the solution looks like this in the interests of cyclists: Here, too, cycle lanes will be arranged on both sides, but based on examples from Berlin and Copenhagen, car parking spaces will be marked here on the left side of the cycle lanes, which will be signposted as short-term parkers (maximum four hours). 42 parking spaces at the edge of the road will be eliminated and 26 new parking spaces for cars will be created. By moving the parkers inwards, it is then no longer possible for two cars to meet continuously, one has to wait. This, according to the goal, leads to traffic calming. The solution for the Kulturstraße, which was already designated as a bicycle street in 2020, looks like this: In order to minimize the still existing through traffic of cars, an entry ban will be issued on Kepserstraße, Murstraße and Finkenstraße.

My Area
As far as the section of Erdinger Straße between Lantbertstraße and Katharina-Mair-Straße is concerned, the width of the road is too small for a protective strip on both sides. The arrangement of a one-way street as an alternative is refrained from, because this would lead to a shift in traffic and would also cause problems for the fire brigade when moving out of fire station 2.
