Since 1998, the "Tutzing" has been owned by the non-profit museum ship association Tutzing. For years, cultural events have been held on the decommissioned passenger ship over the summer months. Now the association is being honored with the municipality's Wilhelm Hausenstein Culture Prize.

Tutzing – On April 29, 1998, the Tutzing Museum Ship Association bought the passenger ship "Tutzing" from the Bavarian Lake Navigation Company for just one mark, a symbolic value. Since 1937, the "Tutzing" chugged along Lake Starnberg. It has covered a total of 1.5 million kilometres in active times and transported 3.5 million passengers across the water. In the spring of 1995 it was finally taken out of service, the TÜV had not wanted to grant the shipping permit. On the last voyage of the 270 hp ship, Captain Helmut Neumann steered the "Tutzing" from Starnberg to the east bank to Leoni, to the west bank to Tutzing and back to Starnberg. As the Starnberger Merkur reported at the time, it was clear that the ship would not have to be scrapped, because there were some interested parties. In the end, the Museum Ship Association, which was founded in November 1997, was awarded the contract. He is now receiving an award for his commitment.

Above all, the ship is intended to serve as a place of encounter and relaxation for residents and visitors to the lake and the community

"After all decommissioned passenger ships on Lake Starnberg, including beautiful paddle steamers, were scrapped in the past, the Museum Ship Association has set itself the goal of preserving the 'Tutzing' as a technical monument," it says on the association's website.

Above all, the ship is intended to serve as a place of encounter and relaxation for residents and visitors to the lake and the community. In the summer months, the association offers a cultural program, and from April to October there is a café and bistro that is open when the weather is nice. In addition, civil weddings take place on the ship, which is moored on the Nemesweg in Tutzing.

Jazz, cabaret and classical music in June

The Museumsschiff-Verein Tutzing is offering three events this month. They are:

Sunday, June 11, 11 a.m.

Jo Aldinger's "Downbeatclub" makes a guest appearance on the ship. The groovy organ trio consists of Aldinger (organ), Konni Behrendt (guitar) and Claas Lausen (drums) and brings contemporary jazz with funk, rock, reggae, afrobeat and drum & bass elements to the stage. Free admission, reservations are not possible.

Friday, June 16, 20:30 p.m.

Severin Groebner makes a guest appearance at the "Tutzing" with the program "ÜberHaltung". Admission to this cabaret evening is from 18 pm. Severin Groebner, himself the holder of numerous cabaret prizes and a regular entertainment officer for the Wiener Zeitung and WDR, pauses and, according to the announcement, distributes "attitude grades for posture needs". Tickets for the cabaret events are available directly at the "Tutzing", in the bookstore Held in Tutzing (Hauptstraße 70) or by e-mail to contact@museumsschiff-tutzing.de. They cost 23 euros in advance and 18 euros at the box office from 25 p.m. onwards.

Sunday, June 25, 11 a.m.

Guests are "Höricht & Rehker feat. Stefan Noelle", who perform jazz, classical music and their own compositions. Andreas Höricht (viola), Anna Rehker (cello) and Stefan Noelle (percussion) are the musicians. The co-founder of the "Modern String Quartet" and his colleagues will take the audience on a journey through well-known jazz standards, classical pieces and original compositions, according to the announcement. Admission is free, seat reservations are not possible.

Further information can be found on www.museumsschiff-tutzing.de. The Hausenstein Prize will be presented at the matinée with the "Trio Nautico" on Sunday, July 2, starting at 11 a.m.

However, the association, which currently has 120 members, does not earn much money. "That's why we only manage to repair the bare necessities," says chairman Matthias Helbig. However, there would always be something, such as buoy changes, painting or holes on deck. Helbig is all the more pleased that the municipality of Tutzing has decided to award the Wilhelm Hausenstein Culture Prize to the association. The award ceremony will take place on 2 July as part of a matinée concert, according to the municipality of Tutzing. "Of course, we were very happy when we heard about it," says Helbig on behalf of all members. "And even more than we have heard that the prize is endowed with 2000 euros. We can really use the money," said the chairman.
