The Steingaden Blossom Days have once again proven to be a crowd puller - for the ninth time now. For two days, thousands flocked to the grounds around the foal farm and the monastery garden to be inspired by the variety of offers related to planting and gardening.

Steingaden – Visitors to the Steingaden Blossom Days were spoilt for choice: a good 140 exhibitors presented their products there, such as the variety of perennials, herbs, colourful flowers and, of course, roses as well as exotic ornamental plants.

The events around the garden & Co. were framed by numerous events: On Saturday, lectures were on the program, which were dedicated to the topic of potato cultivation and tomato diversity. For the little ones there was a soap bubble workshop as well as an open carving workshop.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.

Sunday was then marked by a musical morning pint with the youth band Lechbruck-Steingaden and other ensembles as well as plenty of food. In the end, organizer Roberta Leimbach and her 15-member team were able to draw an all-round positive conclusion: "We again had around 10,000 visitors, many of whom traveled from far away, from the Allgäu, the Lake Constance area and Switzerland – simply a great response. We are looking forward to it."

It should be a balanced mix

The basic idea behind the event: The focus should not only be on traditional rural garden culture, but also on rarer plants and unusual cultivation methods. All in a balanced mix, as the concept of the Blossom Days provides.

Fun and games were also part of it: for example, with a dizzying stilt walk. © Sala

The farm "allgana" based in the Allgäu, for example, specializes in the production of natural fertilizer. Nothing works without nitrogen. However, not in combination with chemical-industrial means, but as it occurs in nature. And that means: in the air.

One plant that is able to extract the nutrient-giving element from it is white clover - and this is exactly what is used in the granules developed by owner Manfred Igel. "Through its root system, the plant manages to bind nitrogen in a natural way and make it available to the soil as a growth donor," Igel informed interested parties at his booth.

The fact that geraniums should not actually be called that, but are actually pelargoniums, belong to the stork's beak family and comprise up to 280 species: florist Hanna Angermaier provided information about this. She always "talks her mouth off" in order to defy the popularly anchored name, "but I guess I'll have to live with the fact that there is always talk of geraniums," she says with a laugh.

The local newspapers in the district of Weilheim-Schongau are represented under "merkur_wm_sog" on Instagram.

It also has all sorts of exotic things to offer, including the fire dragon's tooth, the honey bush or the lion's ear, which is a great eye-catcher on the balcony or terrace with its strong orange flowers.

Next time a small anniversary

According to their own statements, many visitors don't want to miss the Blossom Days anymore: "Just great, a wonderfully designed area, love was palpable everywhere," said Renate and Jörg Ebert, who found their way from Lake Ammersee to Steingaden. Catharina Jestaedt from Peiting was no less pleased: "I think the organization is great, everything is so lovingly thought out and the venue is simply fabulous." Numerous others have stated that they will definitely be there again next time.

In this context, how do the organizers manage to fill the Blossom Days with such life? In addition to the liveliness of the topics and the abundance of offers, one of the secrets lies not least in the team, as one of the members sees it: "We all work on a voluntary basis and put a lot of heart and soul into it - everyone feels that, whether exhibitors or guests."

The next time the Steingaden Blossom Days will take place will be in 2025 - then for the tenth time.
