For the first time, Bräu z'Loh is supplying the festival beer for the Dorfener Volksfest, reason enough for master brewer Barbara Lohmeier-Oper to invite you to brew it.
Dorfen – This has never happened before in the history of Dorfen's brewery: The first brew of Dorfen's Volksfest beer, this year from Bräu z'Loh, was blessed after the hops had been added. Meanwhile, the anticipation is rising in the Isenstadt-Gäu.
Preparations are underway. This includes the brewing of the festival beer, which must now take place so that it is ready to mature in time for the folk festival (11 to 20 August). For the start of the brewing, master brewer Barbara Lohmeier-Opper invited festival hosts, city representatives, Wiesnmadl, Deacon Christian Pastötter and the local fraternity and dirndl to Loh on Monday.
The Bachmayer brewery, which has been a supplier of festival beer for decades, recently ceased operations for good (we reported). The Loher master brewer regrets this very much, but is now proud that she is allowed to deliver the festival beer to the Dorfener Wiesn for the first time.
On Monday morning, she started brewing the first brew, the experienced master brewer explained to her curious guests directly in the brewery at the brewing kettle. In Loh, brewing is strictly according to the German Purity Law of 1516.
The brewing kettle is now filled a total of ten times and the mash mixture, consisting only of water mixed with fine hops and malt as well as yeast, is boiled, then filtered and pumped into the tanks to mature. It will not be too dark, with a fine bitter note, strong, beautiful amber color and drinkable with 13.7 percent original gravity and about 5.6 percent alcohol content, the master brewer described and assured: "The festival beer will certainly not run out."
During beer boiling, hops are added three times. For the first festival beer brew, the Dorfens Wiesnmadl Sandra Bauer was allowed to take over.
To ensure that nothing goes wrong, the bride had invited Deacon Christian Pastötter, another earthly helper, who asked for God's blessing and good luck for the brew. At the traditional beer tasting at the end of June with the Dorfen celebrities, the festival beer will be tested for the first time.
At the start of the brewing, the festival hosts Ernst Hennel, Tobi Maier, Franz Egerndorfer and Michael Gronegger were also present.
In addition to the festival beer and good food, the guests of the folk festival can once again look forward to a proven program and a few innovations. This year there will be a climbing tree, similar to a maypole, in front of the festival hall, Hennel said. Surely, boys and girls can try their hand at scrambling. Depending on how high you get, prizes beckon.

Music groups and bands have already been booked, such as local heroes D'Moosner, Tetrapack and The Soundscape. New are the Grumis, Franconia's most successful party band, Maier reported. The Festhalle will be designed a little differently – two-thirds tables and benches, side boxes, the "Janua Box" in the hall and one-third for the new Wiesn Club with bar, plus a large beer garden in front of the Festhalle. Instead of fireworks, there will be a laser show in the hall, as was the case last year.
Antia Feckl, the city's folk festival organizer, explained that the "trappings" were like every year. According to the space available, proven rides and stalls could be recovered.
It was a particular pleasure for Günther Drobilitsch, a member of the local boys' association and Dorfen folk festival speaker, to be able to be part of the "unique event". "A lot of things are brought together, such as hops and malt and the Loh beer for the folk festival. It's great to see where the first festival beer is now made. To a beautiful Oktoberfest," Drobilitisch wished already.
