Due to a speed limit, trains from Peißenberg repeatedly arrive late in Weilheim. As a result, commuters miss out on their connections. Michael Bernhard (58) has therefore made short work of it.

Peißenberg – Michael Bernhard has had enough. After the speed limit on the train line between Peißenberg and Weilheim continues to exist and the 58-year-old missed his connecting train in the direction of Munich over and over again, he now only rides his bike from Peißenberg to Weilheim. "When it pours out of buckets, I still get into the BRB with gritted teeth," says the Peißenberg. "But nothing else."

Commuter prefers to ride a bike instead of the BRB: "It could have been worse for me"

As reported, trains between Peißenberg and Weilheim, not far from the Ammerbrücke, have to brake significantly. This is due to a "slight unevenness in the track" – as DB had formulated it in mid-April. Michael Bernhard sees it differently: "When the train passes through the said place, it shakes all passengers thoroughly." And that's not all: the commuter has the impression that the jerking has become stronger and stronger over the months and continues to increase. "It's escalating," he says.

As a result, Bernhard often missed the onward journey to Munich by a hair's breadth. The connecting train in Weilheim does not wait for the passengers from Peißenberg. "Sometimes 30 seconds would be enough," says the Peißenberg angrily. But the trouble is over now.

"I'm an avid cyclist, it could have been worse," says the commuter about his daily cycling route. Michael Bernhard is on the road with a touring bike. "Not an e-bike," he emphasizes.

He pedals more than 100 kilometres a week on his way from Peißenberg to Weilheim. With a helmet and yellow safety vest, Michael Bernhard is also well equipped for the tour, and he always has a change of shirt with him in his backpack. "In the office, I change my clothes." When it rains, he puts on a rain cape. "As I said, it has to be pouring heavily for me to sit down in the BRB again."

Deutsche Bahn is working "at full speed" on a solution - but no construction work is to be seen

The Heimatzeitung asks DB again. How long will the speed limit continue to exist? After all, the railway had already stated weeks ago that it was working "at full speed" on the removal of the site. A spokeswoman has now replied that, according to current planning, the work should be completed by the end of September. "In order to additionally stabilize the subsoil, a more complex process is necessary than initially assumed," it says in writing.

So far, however, no work can be seen on this section of the route. "The complexity of the work requires an appropriate planning run-up," said the DB press spokeswoman. They are currently still in the process of coordination. However, there is good news to announce: From mid-July, the affected train will be able to depart from Weilheim a minute later in the direction of Munich. The connection situation would be "somewhat relaxed" as a result.

From July, the connecting train will depart one minute later: "Still far too short"

"Of course, a minute is something," says commuter Michael Bernhard. "But it's still far too close." As long as the weather cooperates, he will continue to cycle from Peißenberg to Weilheim. It is "much more relaxed" to arrive at the Weilheim train station without the hustle and bustle. "I don't have to tremble anymore whether I'll catch the train or not." The daily exercise is good for him.

At first, Michael Bernhard had threatened to switch to a car, but that's not really an option for the 58-year-old. Because he also does a lot with his bike in his private life. "In the village, I ride my bike almost exclusively to go shopping or to the recycling center," he says. He also has a special trailer for this. He would like to see more people switch to non-motorized two-wheelers – for the sake of the environment and health.
