Greece? Antalya? Get out of the box • A 3-hour flight from Israel, Slovakia in Eastern Europe offers a worthwhile deal for families and extreme enthusiasts - besides traditional medical tourism • First look at Trnava Province

Planning a family trip for this summer? Have you thought about sunbathing in clubs in Antalya or the Greek islands? Step out of the box, and you might find a slightly different trip – to the Trnava region of Slovakia. This beautiful area offers a variety of attractions and activities perfect for families with children – from historical sites to water park adventures and water sports – to suit the whole family.

If once Slovakia was mentioned in one breath with medical tourism, spas and the like, now you can combine a family trip of parents and children in this beautiful country, 40% of which are forests. Slovakia is located in Central Europe, and from there you can reach other countries (Austria and Hungary). In recent weeks, a new destination, three and a quarter hours from Israel, was inaugurated in the city of Piestany. The small airport, located in Trnava province, has had direct flights from Israel in recent weeks.

In the pastoral town of Piešťany in the Trnava district there are spa hotels, with a variety of exciting activities suitable for both the whole family and as a destination for the good life vacation, with a selection of treatments and relaxation attractions. Those who wish can stay like the medical tourists all week with round-the-clock treatments. One of the hotels is Thermia Palace on the Vah River, whose famous natural mud is not only a skin treat, but also a gateway to health and relaxation. Soak in a mud bath at the spa, attend mud-related events or engage in outdoor activities along the river – whatever you choose, the natural mud and thermal waters offer a unique and unforgettable experience.

Journey to "Little Rome" in Slovakia

If you came with the whole family, then there is no doubt that you will discover less of the wonders of the natural resource of mud and engage more in activities around the clock. The journey can be started at the Museum of Military History at Piešťany Airport. If you are a history buff, military enthusiast or just curious about the past of weapons, a visit to this museum guarantees an enriching and unforgettable experience.

One of the highlights of the museum is the extensive collection of vehicles and military equipment. From armored tanks and artillery to fighter jets and small arms – everything is Eastern European. The displays offer a glimpse into the technological advances and firepower used over the years, from World War II through the Cold War to today.

From there you can head to Trnava's charming old town, known as "Little Rome". Walk through the cobbled streets, admire the medieval architecture and visit Trnava's iconic city tower. Don't miss the chance to explore the Basilica of St. Nicholas, a magnificent Gothic church with stunning interior decorations.

From rare animals to rafting

For animal lovers, a visit to Malkia Park, the local zoo, is a must. This small but charming zoo is home to a variety of animals, including lions, tigers, bears, reptiles and birds and more. In this zoo they were saved from life in the circus as well as from private homes. Children will have the opportunity to observe and learn about different species, while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, as well as feeding different animals.

One of the packages offered to Israelis is accommodation at Thermal Park Dunajska Streda, located in the heart of Slovakia. The hotel offers a variety of pools, water attractions and wellness facilities, making it a perfect destination for those looking for rejuvenation, recreation and marine fun. In some of the pools it is hot thermal water, which is rich in minerals and known for its healing properties. The park has several outdoor pools with hot water, allowing visitors to enjoy a relaxing dip regardless of the season. For younger people looking for adventure and thrills, the park offers a variety of water attractions and slides, as well as floating peacefully in the river.

Those who didn't have enough time for the water park and are looking for an extra adrenaline rush can head to Divoka Voda, which offers additional opportunities for extreme sports: rafting in a rushing river - an activity that allows you to take a dip in the wild waters and experience up close the beauty of nature; canoeing or stand-up paddle boarding; jet skis; sailing on the Danube River; Riding ATVs and even paintball.

The Hero of Local Culinary: Potato

Slovakia boasts a rich culinary heritage reflecting its diverse history, geography and cultural influences. Slovak cuisine was influenced by Austrians, Hungarians, Czechs and Turks. Potato cultivation became common, and the Slovak menu began to adopt potato foods, such as potato soup or mini dumplings made from dough made from potato flour. Slovaks also have many cheese-based dishes. Slovak cuisine offers a delightful combination of comforting dishes and flavoured specialties to suit everyone. All restaurants also have a children's menu, even schnitzel with potatoes.

To complete your culinary journey, don't forget to sample some traditional Slovak drinks, such as honey-based alcoholic beverages, which are a popular choice. Slovakia also boasts a growing wine industry, with vineyards producing excellent white, red and rosé wines.
