Two cyclists broke into the junction between the road and the tracks in the area of the Lod train station on Wednesday evening, and a few seconds before the train passed, and after all warning measures were activated - the train driver managed to perform emergency braking, thus averting disaster. Although the train failed to come to a full stop, the two cyclists remained unharmed.
Due to the incident, there were slight delays in train traffic at nearby stations, which returned to normal shortly thereafter. The serious incident took place at around 19:00 P.M., and footage circulated by Israel Railways in recent hours shows one of the cyclists managing to cross the tracks before the train passes, while the other cyclist braked and rushed back across the checkpoint.

Israel Railways said: "The Israel Railways safety center alerted the train driver to the emergency procedure, which began with emergency braking, but due to the train's stopping distance, which is close to one kilometer, the train did not manage to reach a full stop before entering the rendezvous area."
"The railway urges all road users to exercise caution near tracks, and to follow the law when crossing tracks. The Ministry of Transport and Israel Railways, together with the Ayalon Highway Company, are working to implement a level separation and cancel the meeting in question, the plans for the construction of the level separation are currently in advanced planning stages," they added.
