Benny Gantz, chairman of the state camp, called on Wednesday to nominate one agreed-upon opposition candidate for the judicial selection committee: "I will not present a candidate - I call on Lapid and Michaeli not to endanger democracy for ego games and political scores. Once the coalition nominates more than one candidate, you can't take the risk."
Today is the last day to present the nomination, and now Karin Elharar and Efrat Reitam remain candidates for the Judicial Selection Committee.
Gantz added: "Our most important practical goal these days, as those who want a Jewish, democratic, strong, just and liberal Israel, is to bring about the establishment of a committee for the selection of judges in its format, with a sitting opposition representative, and to ensure the appointment of quality, diverse and independent judges."
