Two people were killed and five others were wounded in a shooting at a high school graduation ceremony in Richmond, Virginia, United States. The shooter, a 19-year-old man, has been arrested and the circumstances of the shooting are being investigated.
City authorities reported that the shooting took place at a graduation ceremony at the Huguenot School located in the center of the city. The ceremony itself took place in Monroe Park near the school, and dozens of parents and students gathered for the ceremony. Richmond Mayor Laver Stoney posted a tweet saying, "Isn't anything more sacred? A child should be able to go to his graduation ceremony and enjoy his achievements together with his friends. It's a terrible and selfish act."

According to reports, the victims were a father and his 18-year-old son who were shot at close range by the armed youth. Richmond police said the shooter knew at least one of the victims. In addition to five people injured in the shooting, two people were injured after falling while fleeing the gunfire and a 9-year-old girl was run over by a car as she tried to flee the scene, sustaining minor injuries.
Richmond High School Superintendent Jason Kamers responded to the incident, saying, "The attack occurred on what should have been a day of joy with students receiving their diplomas. I have no more words to say and I'm tired of seeing people being shot, our children being shot. I beg our community to stop this phenomenon."
