For more than three days, the bereaved family of Ibrahima Drago has been waiting for his remains. Gathered in a tent in the Dakar suburb of Guinaw Rail, friends and relatives came to pay their respects. Ali Ndiaye learned of the death of his nephew on Friday, via a video published on the internet: Ibrahima is lying on his back, wearing a blue T-shirt in the middle of a pool of blood. He was reportedly shot dead. He was a 23-year-old, who worked every day," recalls Ali Ndiaye, his face closed.
Ibrahima Drago was among 16 people killed in Senegal during last week's protests. Employed at the port of Dakar, the young man practiced wrestling, a traditional national sport, in his spare time. On Sunday, he was scheduled to participate in a local tournament.
