The metropolis of Lyon has just announced an evolution of catering rates in colleges in its territory. Instead of the four pricing brackets linked to the family quotient, Greater Lyon will create eight from the beginning of the next school year. Until now, all households with a family quotient above €1200 paid €3.9 per meal. From now on, this price only concerns households whose quotient is located in 1201 and 1600 €. This price will increase to € 4.5 for the upper bracket and up to € 6 for the highest bracket (family quotient greater than € 2600), an increase of 54%.
However, "in a context of rising food costs linked to inflation", the ecologist majority ensures that it has "chosen a protective pricing for the most modest households for meals served in colleges, while pursuing the objective of a quality public school catering service".
According to Greater Lyon, 72% of families will see their rates maintained, including that of €1 for the poorest families. "This control of rates is made possible thanks to an additional financial contribution from the Métropole de Lyon which amounts to € 2.9 million, or a support of 36% against 28% currently on the cost of meals," she said in a statement.
