Mallorca is popular with holidaymakers not only because of the landscape, many come mainly to party. The island's hosts are already too much.

Munich – Summer is here and for many the holiday season is already beginning. One of the most popular destinations for Germans is still Mallorca. But as is well known, the Spanish island can not only boast sun and beautiful beaches, but also bars and clubs on the Ballermann. But while the guests in Mallorca let off steam while partying and enjoying their holiday to the fullest, the bar and club operators are annoyed by the rush of tourists. For many, it's already enough – but the summer season is just beginning.

Mass tourism in Mallorca: innkeepers already annoyed by party holidaymakers in June

"We are already reaching our physical limits and the summer hasn't even started yet," Beatrice Ciccardini, operator of the restaurant "Zur Krone", told Mallorca Magazine: "It's never been as bad as this year." Many visitors to Mallorca drink too much, the so-called binge drinking is the order of the day, according to the landlady. "There is no end to drinking. Some are still lying around drunk on the street at 9 o'clock in the morning. People probably have a lot of catching up to do after Corona," the landlady believes. This year, the season picked up speed earlier than in other years, and Mallorca already experienced an enormous rush of tourists at Easter.

Rush of booze tourists on Mallorca: "We are already broken"

The restaurateur receives approval from another host on the island. Michael Bormann runs the restaurant "Deutsches Eck" and also feels that the desire of German tourists to celebrate this year is extreme. According to Bormann, only a few tourists have understood that his restaurant is not a pub. The work done by tourism is apparently overloading restaurateurs. "We're already broken," Bormann told Mallorca Magazine.

And the party tourists probably only come to the restaurants to drink. "Due to the increase in prices, holidaymakers are stocking up on food from the supermarket or dining in fast food restaurants," Juan Miguel Ferrer, who initiated the Palma Beach quality initiative, told Mallorca Magazine. Together with other companies, the initiative was founded in 2016 and is intended to improve the company's image. Since this summer, smoking has been prohibited on the beaches in Mallorca.

Not only innkeepers on Mallorca are annoyed by mass tourism - especially by hard-drinking holidaymakers

But it is not only the restaurateurs who are concerned with curbing booze tourism. The large rush of tourists is also a thorn in the side of locals, because in the meantime entire places in Mallorca are bought by tourists. In addition, the tourists ensure that the beaches on the island are in danger. One expert even speaks of dying beaches in Mallorca and warns that in a few decades there will be no beach holidays on the island if nothing changes.
