Heckled by some, criticized by others and pressed from all sides. The last two weeks of Yaël Braun-Pivet at the head of the Lower House have not been a long quiet river, far from it. After having long refused to convene a bureau of the National Assembly to rule on the admissibility of the bill to repeal retirement at 64 years, the occupant of the perch finally decided, Wednesday, to take sole responsibility for using Article 40 of the Constitution.
"I apply the rule, nothing but the rule", repeated several times the deputy of Yvelines on BFMTV-RMC, specifying that when "one exercises a function, whatever it is, (...) We do not act according to what we think politically or personally, but according to the mission."
Between opposition and support
A decision immediately denounced by a large part of the opposition, accusing Yaël Braun-Pivet of being the "gun-bearer" of the majority rather than the "guarantor of the institutions", dixit...
