Nord Stream sabotage: US probably knew about Ukrainian plan months earlier

2023-06-07T01:51:11.369Z

Highlights: Washington Post: CIA learned of Ukrainian plan to blow up Nord Stream pipelines in 2022. Six members of a Ukrainian elite unit wanted to carry out a covert diving operation. The described plan is said to have been very detailed – and has great similarities with the actual events. German investigation has come to the conclusion that six people had actually proceeded in the same way during the detonations. The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines running under the Baltic Sea for the transport of Russian natural gas to Germany were destroyed at the end of September 2022.

There are more and more indications of Ukrainian perpetrators of the explosions at the Nord Stream pipelines. U.S. secret documents are now supposed to show how much who knew.

Frankfurt – After the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea in 2022, further traces lead to Ukraine, according to a US media report. The Washington Post reported on Tuesday (6 June) that the CIA in the US had learned of a Ukrainian plan for such an attack as early as June 2022 – three months before the detonations.

According to the report, the CIA was informed by a European intelligence agency that a team of six members of a Ukrainian elite unit wanted to blow up the Nord Stream pipelines, which transport gas from Russia to Germany, among other places, during a covert diving operation. According to the Washington Post, the team is said to have been directly subordinate to the Ukrainian army leadership.

Secret U.S. documents to show: Germany was also informed

The renowned newspaper refers to secret documents that were allegedly shared by US National Guardsman Jack Teixeira on the news platform Discord. Teixeira was detained in April after the leak of secret government documents made international headlines.

According to the Washington Post, the secret documents prove that the U.S. government learned of the alleged Ukrainian plan through a "close ally" in June 2022. The U.S. then shared the information with Germany and other European members, the report said. The described plan is said to have been very detailed – and has great similarities with the actual events.

U.S. Secret Service – Six divers with helium tanks and explosives

The plan involved six participants driving a boat rented under false identities to the Nord Stream pipelines and diving down to the pipelines to attach explosive devices to them. According to the secret documents, in addition to oxygen tanks, helium tanks were also provided, which are used for particularly deep dives, according to the Washington Post report. According to media reports, the German investigation has come to the conclusion that six people had actually proceeded in the same way during the detonations.

According to the newspaper, the forces involved in the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines reported directly to the Ukrainian army chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on the other hand, was deliberately not informed about the plans in order to be able to credibly reject Ukrainian responsibility.

Nord Stream pipelines: Ukraine may have planned false flag operation without Zelensky

The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines running under the Baltic Sea for the transport of Russian natural gas to Germany were destroyed by explosions at the end of September 2022. In recent months, there have been growing indications that Ukraine could be behind the detonations, but the results of the investigation have not been forthcoming. Only recently, the Spanish newspaper ABC criticized the secrecy surrounding the question of who is responsible for the explosions at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines.

The known details of a raid in Frankfurt an der Oder supported the hypothesis that Ukraine could be behind the sabotage of the pipelines on September 26, 2022, the report said. The secrecy under which the investigations are carried out prevents a so-called (staged) false flag operation from being ruled out. However, the case requires "an absolutely transparent investigation" as it "could be of decisive importance" for the course of the Ukraine war. (NA/dpa/AFP)
