Out for the express bus: No fast connection from Mainburg to Garching

2023-06-07T14:11:52.735Z

Highlights: Despite a convincing concept, the dream of an express bus has burst - the X610 line cannot currently be introduced. This is particularly true for Munich commuters from the Ampertal and Hallertau regions. The line should have gone into operation at the end of 2022, with an hourly service planned between 4:30 a.m and 23:30 p.m. (even a 40-minute interval during rush hours) The project was to submit an application for funding for the project to the Free State of Bavaria.

Despite a convincing concept, the dream of an express bus has burst - the X610 line cannot currently be introduced. This is particularly true for Munich commuters from the Ampertal and Hallertau regions.

Allershausen – From Allershausen to Garching in 20 minutes: For Munich commuters in the Ampertal community, this had sounded very tempting. The X610 express bus from Mainburg via Au, Schweitenkirchen and Allershausen to Garching would have made this possible. The anticipation was great. But now came the end for this express bus line, as was recently announced in the Allershausen municipal council.

When asked by FT, the district office described the current situation as follows: The district administration and MVV had developed a concept agreed at the administrative level between all parties involved (districts of Freising, Pfaffenhofen and Kelheim as well as the city of Mainburg and the municipality of Schweitenkirchen) in order to introduce the cross-district line. The line should have gone into operation at the end of 2022, with an hourly service planned between 4:30 a.m. and 23:30 p.m. (even a 40-minute interval during rush hours). What's more, the X610 line would have cost around one million euros per year. The plan was to submit an application for funding for the project to the Free State of Bavaria via the "Mobility in Rural Areas" funding guideline. The problem is that this funding program will expire on December 31, 2024 at the latest, and its continuation is not assured, according to District Office press spokesman Robert Stangl.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Taking these general conditions into account, the municipality of Schweitenkirchen and the city of Mainburg have now refused to cover the costs due to the lack of funding commitment over the entire term. And with that, the express bus in this form probably died. The result: "Despite the actually positive mood, the convincing concept of the express bus line, the constructive cooperation between all parties involved and the fundamentally positive decisions of the districts of Kelheim and Pfaffenhofen, the X610 line cannot be introduced in the planned manner at this point in time," Stangl informs. However, the administration and MVV are already in initial talks on how to proceed. A number of scenarios are currently being played through and examined. A new route is just as much an idea as a complete reorganization of the timetable in order to meet the requirements for another funding pot as a "state-significant line".

In any case, Freising's district administrator Helmut Petz is fully behind the project: "I think this bus line is very important and will continue to search intensively for a solution through discussions with my district administrator colleagues."
