Could God escape gender theory? It is with a version of the Bible "more linguistically and historically accurate, reflecting advances in knowledge and changes in the English language," that the Sefaria platform, an online library of Jewish religious texts, provides its answer. She proposes, among others, a non-gendered version of the sacred text of Judaism and Christianity.
In this text published in English, the masculine pronoun used to refer to God is systematically replaced by the proper noun "God". We can thus read, in the book of Isaiah: "Seek God as much as you can, invoke God as long as he is near" while a French version proposes the following translation: "Seek the Lord as long as he lets himself be found; Invoke him while he is near."
