Shots are fired at a graduation ceremony in the United States. Two people die, others suffer gunshot wounds, some of them severe.
Richmond – On the sidelines of a school graduation ceremony in the United States, two people have been killed by gunfire. According to police in the US state of Virginia, another five people suffered gunshot wounds on Tuesday evening (local time). The authorities announced in a press release.

The shots were fired directly in front of a theater in the city of Richmond (Virginia), police chief Rick Edwards said, according to AFP. Students would have celebrated their graduation there. The dead were an 18-year-old graduate and a 36-year-old man.
A 19-year-old suspect fled the scene, but was arrested shortly afterwards. He is to be charged with two counts of manslaughter. The police initially did not provide any information on the motive. However, the suspect knew at least one of the victims. According to officials, several handguns were found at the scene.
In the United States, gun attacks occur again and again. Just last April, shots were fired at a party among teenagers. Four people died. In March, six people – including three children – were killed in a shooting at a US elementary school.
