Dießen – The people of Dießen have been eagerly awaiting this news: The postal agency in the station building, which has been closed since the end of April, is expected to reopen on July 4.
Deutsche Post informed her of this, informed Mayor Sandra Perzul. A new, independent operator was found, which offers fresh baked goods in addition to postal services. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 18 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 13 p.m. However, there is one downer: The mailbox system has been dismantled, so that letters will again be delivered by the postman to the company or home addresses in the future.
So there is more life in the station building, which also houses the tourist information, a VR ATM and a pizza delivery service. Deutsche Post has thus fulfilled its legal obligation to the market town. The universal provision of postal services is regulated in beautiful official German by the so-called "Postal Universal Service Ordinance", or PUDLV for short. Accordingly, there must be at least one branch or agency in municipalities with 2,000 or more inhabitants. From 4,000 inhabitants, the post office would even have to be accessible within a maximum of 2,000 meters in contiguously built-up areas.
